A hit-and-run driver has crushed a young girl to death on the Ugbowo-Lagos Expressway, by Iguosa Housing Estate in Benin,
It was gathered that tragedy struck when the victim, said to be about 10 years old, was hit by a Toyota Camry as she tried to cross to the other side of the road.
She reportedly died instantly.
The driver of the vehicle, who was said to be in full speed, sped off instantly to avoid being caught.
Eyewitnesses also attributed the accident to the presence of heavy vehicles parked by the side of the road, which made it difficult for pedestrians to check properly before crossing.
One of the eyewitnesses, who did not want her name in print, said, “She wanted to cross to the other side of the road but she didn’t notice that a car was coming.
“As soon as she wanted to cross, the car, which was on top speed, hit her and she died instantly.
“Those trailers that are parking along this very road are the ones causing most of the accidents.
“When somebody wants to cross the road, there is no way he can see the other side because the trailers park here and there.”
The body of victim was moved to a mortuary by officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps, who were at the scene of the accident.
