Immediate past Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has responded to some of the accusations against his 4-year administration by incumbent Governor, Ayo Fayose.
Fayemi addressed most of the allegations made by Fayose since he took over two months ago, stating that his successor’s administration has adopted the elevation of falsehood and deceit as its official policy.
Fayemi made his rebuttal on a radio station, ADABA 88.9 FM, in Akure, Ondo state, on the evening of Friday, December 26. According to him, the total debt profile he left behind was N36 billion, as opposed to the N85 billion being alleged by Fayose.
He said the governor lied about the N10. 4 billion he claimed to have left in the government purse after he was impeached from office in October 2006. According to him, records show that Fayose left N3.5 billion and a lot of contractor obligations behind after his dramatic ouster from power in 2006.
Responding to Fayose’s claim on the monthly media chat that the new Government House is yet to be completed, Fayemi said: “the edifice is not only completed but is also fully furnished”.
The former governor also said he was shocked that Fayose and his aides would claim that each of the beds in the Ayoba Villa cost N50 million, stating that there is no place in the world where a single bed is being sold for that amount.
He revealed that the actual cost of building the Government House, ‘Ayoba Villa’, was N2.1 billion.
He admonished Fayose to face the serious business of governance, rather than go around peddling lies, adding that he is portraying Ekiti in bad light in the comity of states in Nigeria and before the international community.
