Former President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida on the 17th of this month turned 72. The former military ruler chose to have a private ceremony to celebrate the occasion with his family and close friends.
The day was marked with special prayers and celebrated with members of his inner circle and a few business associates at his Minna, Niger State residence
Babangida received Aliko Dangote, Niger State deputy governor, some members of the state executive council and other prominent businessmen and politicians before rushing out to attend a wedding.
The day before he turned 72, IBB  told newsmen that he wants to be remembered as a person who played his part and contributed his quota to Nigeria’s development.
Asked to write his epitaph, IBB said:
“Here lies General IBB born in Minna, joined military profession in 1962, stayed there for 32 years, serving this great nation and, by the grace of God, he became a military president and served this country eight years. May his soul rest in peace.”
