TheIkeja
Electricity Distribution Company of the Power Holding Company of
Nigeria has attributed the power supply interruptions in the Ikeja area
of Lagos State to cable fault.
The Assistant General Manager, Public Affairs, Ikeja Disco, Mr. Pekun Adeyanju, in a statement on Wednesday, conveyed the company’s
management apologies to customers at Ikeja GRA, Opebi, General
Hospital, Medical Road, Computer Village and environs over the ongoing
load-shedding in their areas.
“The
load-shedding is due to the underground cable fault between our
transmission station at Maryland and our injection substation at Police
Training College, Ikeja,” he said
“In
order to avoid total blackout in those areas before we finish clearing
the fault, the management has decided to backfeed the affected areas
through Ogba Transmission Station,” Adeyanju added.
He,
however, said the management of Ikeja Disco had decided to go on
overhead construction for easy clearing of fault because of the illegal
structures on the underground cables, which had not been allowing easy
access to clearing of faults.
He said the new overhead construction work had commenced, adding that it would be commissioned in the next few days.
“We
regret all inconveniences being experienced by the affected customers
and we assure that power supply would soon be normalised,” he added.
It
will be recalled that the Ikeja Business Unit of the PHCN had condemned
the rising customer debt totalling N3.1bn in the area.
Speaking
during a recent consultative council meeting held with its customers in
Lagos, on Wednesday, the Manager, PHCN Ikeja Business Unit, Mr. Lateef
Olaleye, regretted that customer debts to the company as at June, 2013
stood at N3.1bn.
While government Ministries, Department and Agencies in the business area owed PHCN N2.3bn, Olaleye said others owed N7m.
