President sacks NHIS CEO

Thomas was relieved of his duties on Monday, April 27, 2015 and immediately replaced with Olufemi A. Akingbade, who will serve as acting CEO.President Goodluck Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has sacked the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Femi Thomas.

Thomas was relieved of his duties on Monday, April 27, 2015 and immediately replaced with Olufemi A. Akingbade, who will serve as acting CEO.
News of the development was disclosed via a statement released by the Special Adviser to President Jonathan on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati.
It reads:
“President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has relieved the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Dr. Femi Thomas of his appointment with immediate effect.”
“The President has also approved the appointment of Mr. Olufemi A. Akingbade as Acting Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the NHIS.”
“Mr. Akingbade who hails from Ekiti State and holds a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science as well as a Masters in Business Administration was the General Manager, ICT in the NHIS until his new appointment.”
President Jonathan also appointed Mounir Haliru Gwarzo as Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi as Chairman of the commission.
