He killed it... but not in a good way! Twitter users accuse Jamie Foxx of 'destroying' the National Anthem at Fight Of The Century

Jamie Foxx got a less than rousing response to his rendition of the National Anthem ahead of the Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao championship bout in Las Vegas.
The actor, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of singing great Ray Charles, performed what might be kindly described as a soulful version of The Star Spangled Banner.

But the 47-year-old Hollywood star received only a smattering of applause from those in the arena as he ended the anthem with a hallelujah.... and he came in for some harsh criticism almost instantly on social media.
Special gig: Jamie Foxx performed the National Anthem ahead of the highly-anticipated Mayweather vs. Pacquiao boxing bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Saturday night
Soulful: The actor, who played Ray Charles on the big screen, opted for a less than rousing version of The Star Spangled Banner and ended it with an added 'hallelujah'
Titter exploded: The reaction on social media after Foxx's rendition of the National Anthem was swift and merciless
Twitter lit up with people who couldn't quite believe what they had just witnessed and accused Foxx of 'murdering' the National Anthem.
'Jamie Foxx killed the national anthem. And by killed it I mean it was like road kill,' tweeted @dbeltwrites.

'Wonder if either of the fighters can stand as much punishment as Jamie Foxx just handed out to the national anthem?' asked @TheMangoose69.
User @petershankman wrote: 'Currently launching a Kickstarter to pay Jamie Foxx to never sing in public again.'
Couldn't believe their ears: Twitter users didn't hold back in the their critiques of Foxx's performance
Thumbs down: The Oscar winning actor got a reaction to his performance - just probably not the one he'd hooped for
Within minutes, 'Jamie Foxx' was the trending on Twitter with hundreds and hundreds of posts pouring into the cybersphere.
And the the hits just kept on coming even after the fight ended with Mayweather declared the victor on points.
'Honestly Jamie Foxx struggling to reach the high notes during the national anthem was a better fight than what I've just seen, tweeted user @mercsuncheese.
Meanwhile, more mainstream media joined in the Foxx bashing with music channel VH1 describing what the Annie star had just unleased on the world on pay-per-view as 'very cringe worthy.'
Working it: The Annie star definitely seemed to be trying to give his all during his performance from inside the ring, although the audience in the ring side seats didn't seem to be impressed
Poking fun: The Internet was quickly full of people trying to outdo each other with witty reaction to Foxx's singing
Gospel ending: Foxx ended the familiar patriotic song with a couple of added 'hallelujahs'
The entertainer, who's collaborated with Kanye West and Ludacris and who has a new single about to drop, remained strangely silent about his performance on his own Twitter account following the fight.
But he obviously hadn't lost faith in his musical abilities.
While twitter users were busy taking him to task, he took advantage of his name trending on social media to post a clip of the new track he's about to drop called Baby's In Love.
Hail and farewell: Foxx saluted the audience before leaving the ring
Haters hated: Fans seemed disappointed that they hadn't been given the traditional rousing patriotic anthem with its soaring high notes but more of a ballad in which Foxx seemed to struggle to get the words out
Didn't win any prizes:  Foxx, seen posing with the championship belt, didn't win any points with the vast majority of Twitter users
