Edo State Government To Build A 5-Star Hotel In Benin

Governor Adams Oshiomhole has said that he will place the Edo state House in Lagos in the open market and use the proceeds to build a Five Star Hotel with conference, seminar rooms and banquet facilities. He further said that the Edo State Government has approached an American firm and put the projected cost of the hotel at 250 million US dollars.

He explained that if the money realised from the sale of Edo House is not enough, it will use it to start the construction.
“We have decided to sell the house and use the proceeds to construct a five-star hotel with the state-of-the-art facilities; this will boost our economy, while encouraging investments and tourism in the state.
“How do we use taxpayers’ money to pay N60 million ground rents to Lagos State for a property that does not generate anything for government?” he asked.
“I am not bothered by the criticisms since we will be transparent with the bidding process,” he added.
He also announced government’s intention to build a Benin City business district to be located around the King’s Square and around where the Agindingbi House used to be located, stressing that government was desirous to transform the state and should take advantage of its central location as the heart of the country, connecting all parts.
