Policeman gets beaten up by motorcyclists for confiscating a bike in Lagos


A police officer in Lagos State has suffered in the line of duty after he was mobbed and severely beaten for seizing a motorcycle.
The incident occurred around the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, at the Berger Yard environs yesterday evening.
The irate motorcyclists reportedly beat up the policeman all the while calling him a thief because he had confiscated a motorcycle from one of their own.
Vanguard reports:
The  policeman was attacked on Monday evening, by some men suspected to be commercial cyclists (Okada).
He allegedly seized a motorcycle belonging to one of them.
It was gathered that the unsuspecting Policeman, whose identity could not be established at press time, was taking the seized motorcycle away when he was intercepted at Berger Yard Bus Stop by the mob.
An eyewitness said the mob was made up of Okada men of Northern extraction.
Before help could come the officer’s way, the mob descended on him and beat him up, while shouting Ole, Ole (thief, thief), and hit him on the head with a sharp objects.
Before people realised he was actually a police officer and had seized the bike, the mob had retrieved the motorcycle and made away with it.
