Police Pledges Continuous Support To Sports Development
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has pledged its continuous support to the development of sports in the country. The Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police and the head of the force’s sports department, CP Sani Muhammed, has assured that the force will continue to support and contribute immensely to the development of sport in Nigeria.
Muhammed, who gave the assurance while speaking to the media in Abuja during the week, boasted that Team Nigeria will spring surprises at the 11th edition of the All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville later this year and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio di Janeiro, Brazil.
He said proof of the coming glory was the NPF’s grooming of athletes to do Nigeria proud at both international sport showpieces.
“I can assure you that we will spring surprises at the All Africa Games and the 2016 Olympics. We are working hard to ensure that our athletes who are going to represent Nigeria at both competitions do the country and the Police Force proud.
“All our athletes are busy with their training overseas and the force is supporting them to make the nation proud. The boxers and other athletes are in USA and, very soon, we will invite them over to Nigeria for unveiling before the championship.
“The Nigerian Police Force has been consistent in providing top-notch athletes for the country.
“From 1946 to be precise, when we started institutional sports in Obalende, where we had the first Nigeria Police Force Games, the Europeans then had it in mind to integrate sports as part and parcel of police work, with the concept of a ‘sound mind and sound body, physical fitness and mental alertness’.
“Since then, we haven’t broken the tradition. Every succeeding Inspector General of Police maintains the tempo, unless we have a national emergency,” he said.
